Louis L. Manche, 86, of rural Morrill, died April 28, 2013, at The Pines in Hiawatha.
He was born May 26, 1926, on the family farm near Salem, Nebraska, one of six children born to Louis (Bud) and Jennie Wisdom Manche and graduated from Honey Creek School in 1944. He enlisted in the Army in August of 1944 and was honorable discharged in July of 1946. Louis worked for the Nemaha Cooperative Creamery in Sabetha for a number of years.
Louis married Ruth Hartman, November 14, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Fairview. They farmed and operated a dairy farm and raised their family northwest of Morrill. She died November 9, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, and two brothers.
He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairview; and a member of the American Legion Post #322 in Fairview.
Survivors include his children: Dennis and Cindy Manche of Hiawatha, Steven and Nancy Manche of Morrill; grandchildren: Levi and Teresa Manche of Hiawatha, Zana Manche of Goessel, Selena Manche of Morrill, and Stuart Manche of Morrill.
Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Fairview, with Reverend Michael Dunaway, and Reverend Quentin Nuttmann, officiating. Interment will follow at Albany Cemetery, north of Sabetha, with military honors a courtesy of American Legion #322, of Fairview.
Friends may call at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. Tuesday and where the family will meet that evening from 6:30 until 8.
