HOYT – Berniece L. Tilton, 94, of Hoyt, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Medicalodges Jackson County Nursing Home in Holton.

She was born September 10, 1927 at Westmoreland, the daughter of Edward and Ida Grace May Wege.  She graduated from Westmoreland High School as Valedictorian of her class in 1945.

Berniece was a homemaker.  She was also the bookkeeper for their business, Tilton's Trash Service in Topeka, for over 25 years.

Berniece married Harold M. Tilton on July 23, 1945 at Holton.  He preceded her in death on November 7, 2009.

Berniece was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Gary Tilton and his wife Bambi, a granddaughter, Amy Naylor, who died in 2014, seven brothers, Edwin, Alfred, Herbert, Clarence, August, Calvin and Paul Wege, and two sisters, Alta Faye Bear and Ida Garland.

Survivors include a son, Harold Tilton, Jr. and wife Joanie, Hoyt; a daughter, Linda J. Tilton, Topeka; five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt.  Burial will follow in the Hoyt Cemetery.  Berniece will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday.  Memorials are suggested to the Helping Hands Humane Society, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 280, Hoyt, KS  66440.
