Bettie Lou Smith passed away on August 1, 2024 at the Pines South in Holton, Kansas. She was 88 years old.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, an infant son, David, two sisters: Anna Lee Knouft and Barbara Cook.

Bettie was born in Waco, Kentucky on September 14, 1935, the daughter Emanuel Fritts and Emily McLaughlin Fritts. She lived in Kentucky until the family moved to Holton, Kansas.

She graduated from Holton High School. She then worked as a telephone operator for United Telephone and as a cook for Holton schools for several years. She also worked in the bakery at Coleman's IGA and Casey's in Holton.

Bettie married Burton Charles Smith in Holton, Kansas on November 1, 1956. They raised two sons in the Holton community and were members of the Holton First United Methodist Church.  He died January 26, 2020.

She loved to read, working in the garden, and everything that living on a farm brings. Her love of family was second to none.

Bettie is survived by two sons, Warren Smith (Kathy) and Greg Smith, all of Holton, a granddaughter Tia Guesby of Lawrence, Kansas, nieces and nephews and brother and sister in laws.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 6th  at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton.  A visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Family and friends are invited to greet the family for a lunch at First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1034, Holton, KS  66436.
