David Alan McQueen

May 10, 1945 - October 28, 2024

David A. McQueen, 79, passed away peacefully October 28, 2024, at Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek, CA surrounded by family.

David was born in San Francisco, California, May 10, 1945, and grew up in South San Francisco. David enjoyed running track during his years at South San Francisco High School and College of San Mateo and earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Cal State Hayward. He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller and retired after 37 years. David's love for aviation inspired him to make model airplanes and become a glider pilot. David was an avid hobbyist as an Amateur Radio Operator on his HAM radios. He would "work" countries all over the world with his KK0M call sign and enjoyed exchanging QSL cards. His love for running track transitioned into hiking local trails and peaks with his accomplishment of hiking to the top of Mount Whitney where he proudly signed the summit register. Proud of his McQueen ancestry, David would watch the Scottish Games in Pleasanton donning his McQueen tartan kilt along with researching genealogical records and discovering his lineage to The Mayflower Society and The Sons of the American Revolution.

David is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Edna; children Gayle (William) Sutcliffe of Davis, CA, and Rebecca (Jeffrey) Bond of San Jose, CA; grandchildren Abigail Sutcliffe, Emily Sutcliffe, William Sutcliffe, Brent Bond, and Brooke Bond; sisters Diane (Paul) Roberts of South SF, CA, Susan (Stephen) Bell of San Mateo, CA, and Patricia (Robert) Baker of Lockport, NY.

He is preceded in death by his parents Frank (d. 2014) and Vera (d. 2002) McQueen, his beloved wife and mother of his children, Sharon (Rutland) McQueen (d. 2003), and his brother, Kenneth McQueen (d. 2018).

Services will be held Friday November 15, 2024, at 2:00pm at Callaghan Mortuary in Livermore, CA.

A graveside burial service will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha, Kansas, November 20, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. with Tony French officiating.
