NETAWAKA – Delbert F. Ackerman, 81, formerly of Netawaka, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at his niece's home in Lenexa.

He was born July 4, 1940 at Vermillion, the son of Vern and Mary Montague Ackerman.  He graduated from Vermillion High School in 1959.  After high school, he served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

Delbert had worked on a dairy farm and for Anderson Construction.  He also worked at Alamo Manufacturing in Holton, where he detailed rotor cutters.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Vermillion.

Delbert married Lois Christy on September 14, 1979 in Hiawatha.  She preceded him in death on July 2, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son from a previous marriage, three brothers, Eldon Ackerman, Leo Ackerman and a brother who died in infancy, and two sisters, Pauline White, and a sister who died in infancy.

Survivors include his caregiver and niece, Patricia Roberts and husband Kelly, a daughter, Waneta Ackerman, Netawaka, two children from a previous marriage, a sister, Fay Dowine, Marysville, and two grandchildren, Jordan and Aalayah Ackerman.

Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 28th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton.  Burial with military honors followed in the Netawaka Cemetery.  Family and friends met from 1:00 until service time on Monday.  Memorials are suggested to the Delbert Ackerman Memorial Fund, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1034, Holton, KS  66436.
