Denette A. McGehee, 66, of Mayetta, formerly of Prairie Village, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Anew Healthcare Nursing Home in Holton.

She was born January 6, 1958 at Holton, the daughter of Donald and Dolores Feldkamp Holthaus.  She graduated from Royal Valley High School in 1976.

Denette was very active with Elks Lodge No. 26, and the Auxiliary to that lodge, the Does Drove No. 74.  She loved to cook, make floral arrangements, and to decorate for parties and other gatherings.  She was usually the organizer for all the family gatherings.

She and Bobby Joe McGehee were married for forty-four years.  He survives, of the home.

Denette and her husband did over the road trucking.  They later were owner operators of Woodside Lawn and Maintenance, and had the contract for the Maintenance Department for the entire city of Mission Hills.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three step-daughters, Vivian Wing, Rosa Schwab and Geneva McGehee, and a brother, LeRoy Holthaus.

Other survivors include four step-sons, William McGehee, Missouri City, MO, Bobby Joe McGehee, Jr., Kansas City, MO, Richard Sparrow, in Washington State and Nelson Sparrow, in Arkansas, a step-daughter, Robin McGehee, Lawrence, her siblings, Donna Johnson (Robert), Kenny Holthaus (Kaye) and Doug Holthaus, all of Mayetta, and Farrell Holthaus, Hoyt, sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time.  Burial will follow the service in the Holton Cemetery.   Denette will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the V.F.W.
