HOYT – Dorothy I. Kester, 78, of Hoyt, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at her home near Hoyt.

She was born November 23, 1945 in Paola, the daughter of Dewey and Laura Bumgarner Sampson.  She graduated from Topeka High School in 1963.

Dorothy had worked in various agencies for the State of Kansas for twenty-seven years.  She then worked for twenty-four years for the U.S. Postal Service.

She was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Kansas Quarter Horse Association, which she was Treasurer of for thirteen years.  She was also a member of 4-H.

She married Howard L. Kester on February 16, 1968 in Squires, Missouri.  He survives, of the home.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sharon.

Other survivors include two sons, Dennis Kester and Edward Kester and his wife Melaine, all of Hoyt, one brother, Charles Sampson, Grants Pass, OR, one sister, Pamela Sue Molloy, Phoenix, AZ, and three grandchildren, Dennis Jacob Kester, Alexandria Shea Kester and Wyatt Samuel Kester.

Memorial graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27th, and will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery at Hoyt.  Memorials are suggested to Heart of Jackson Humane Society and may be sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, PO Box 280, Hoyt, KS  66440.
