Dorothy R. "Dot" Sosna, 89, of Hoyt, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 15, 2025 at her home.

She was born July 22, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Stella Mortko Dolinar.  She graduated from Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, KS in 1954.

Dot was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta and the Altar Society at the church.

She married Robert L. Sosna on April 7, 1956 in Kansas City.  He preceded her in death on January 20, 2019.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents, her step-parents, Helen Dolinar and Al Basey, a daughter, Cheryl Stewart, and her step-brother, Michael Basey.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan Shumaker (Roger), Topeka, Denise Murray (Brian) and Lori Winter, all of Hoyt, a step-sister, Marsha Basey, Olathe, eleven grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23rd, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery at Hoyt.  Dot will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Monday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m., followed by visitation until 7:30.  Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 280, Hoyt, KS  66440.
