Emmett Lee Cole, 74, of Highland, passed away May 12, 2022 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO. Emmett was born near Robinson, KS on May 30, 1947. He was the oldest of six children born to Fred and Mary (Bechtold) Cole. He was a lifelong resident of Doniphan County and attended school in Leona and Highland. After graduating high school, Emmett attended Highland Community Junior College where he enjoyed playing football for the Scotties.

Emmett was a proud local business owner who owned and operated Valley Grain & Fertilizer for nearly 50 years while also managing a large farming operation. He was proud to have his son, Eric, by his side running the family businesses. He enjoyed working in his community with local farmers.

Emmett loved and cherished the town of Highland, where he resided and raised his children. He enjoyed supporting school and community events, along with summer athletic programs. He also enjoyed golfing and watching KU basketball. He was a member of the Catholic Church and BPOE #1741 Hiawatha Elks Lodge.

He married Kathy Upton on June 25, 1977 in Olathe, KS. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Cole; his children, Eric Cole & Becky Cole (Keith Slimmer); his grandson, Brady Cole; siblings Melinda (Bob) Wareham, Virginia Whetstine, Carol (Craig) Kilmer, Mary (Ron) Schneider, sister-in-law, Sharon Cole; and many nieces and nephews. Emmett was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Cole; father, Fred Cole; brother, Rick Cole & brother-in-law, John Whetstine.

Emmett's family was his whole world. Throughout his life, Emmett took great pride in caring for those around him. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by many.

Please join the family for a graveside service at Highland Cemetery on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 10:30am. Following the service, all are invited to celebrate Emmett's life and luncheon at the Highland Community Center (501 W. Ave.).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Highland EMT Association or Doniphan West FFA, which may be sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, PO Box 33, Highland, KS 66035.
