MAYETTA – Eugene "Gene" Schiefelbein, Jr., 67, of Mayetta, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

Gene was born August 23, 1953 in Topeka, the son of Eugene and Dorothy Haupt Schiefelbein. He graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka.

He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church at Holton and Holton Knights of Columbus Council No. 4219. He was also a member of the Marianist Group at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta, and a former member of the Glory To God Covenant Community in Topeka.

Gene had worked at Lardner Monument Company, and after that, for many years was a custodian at Hayden High School, both in Topeka.

He married Maggie Duniven on October 25, 2003 in Topeka. She survives, of the home.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sharon Schiefelbein, who died at the age of twelve, and many aunts and uncles.

Other survivors include a son, Brad Schiefelbein, New York, NY; two daughters, Laura Cote, in Florida, and Misty Vigneron, in Kansas; a step-son, David Duniven, Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, Dan Schiefelbein (Leda) and Chris Schiefelbein, both in Topeka; a sister, Kathy Wood (Chuck), Olathe; five grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 22nd at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m.  A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton.  The committal service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mt.
