Whiting, Kansas native Grace D. Bender, passed away July 23, 2024, at John Knox Care Center in Lee's Summit, Missouri.  She was 92.

Grace was born at Whiting, January 2, 1932, one of seven children born to Charles Henry and Ruth (Mercer) Chick.  She grew up at Whiting where she attended school prior to graduating high school.

She and Charles W. Bender, Jr. were married in 1952 in Whiting.  They owned and operated Carquest Auto Parts in Meriden, Kansas for many years before retiring to Bella Vista, Arkansas.  There she was a member of the 18 hole womens golf league and organized a Kansas club. He died September 16, 2007.  In 2016 she moved to John Knox Village in Lee's Summit to be closer to family.

Grace was of the Methodist faith.

Grace was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers:  Lloyd Chick, Donald Chick; two sisters Hazel Miles and Leona McQueen.

Survivors include two sons:  Bill Bender of Topeka, Steve Bender (DeAnn) Bender of Lee's Summit; a brother Duane Chick; a sister Nadine Clay; three granddaughters:  Christa, Michele, Natalie; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are planned for 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, at Springhill Cemetery at Whiting.
