HOYT – Joyce Ann Peterson (Shields), 64, of Hoyt, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2024 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.  She died from complications from an attempted suicide due to failing physical and mental health.

She was born July 21, 1959 in Hiawatha, the daughter of Richard and Betty Bowen Shields.  She graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1977.

She married Ron Peterson on March 25, 1978 in Hiawatha.  He survives, of the home.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and half brother, Robert Richard Shields.

Other survivors include two sons, Ryan Peterson (Tricia), Topeka and Drew Peterson (Chelsye), Tonganoxie, three wonderful grandchildren, a granddaughter, Penelope (Princess Penny), and two grandsons, Oscar, and Asher.  She was very proud of all of them.  Two sisters also survive, Sharon Winkelbauer (Tom), Leavenworth, and Linda Money (Les), Ocala, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Per Joyce's request, there will be no services.  A Meet 'n Greet will be held on Friday, August 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hoyt Community Center.  Please join the family for food and reminiscing.
