Larry Dean O'Brien
1943 - 2023

Larry Dean "Crazy Larry" O'Brien of Preston, NE, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 12, 2023.

Larry was born in Sabetha, KS on December 29, 1943. On August 27, 1973, Larry married Sandy (SanJuanita), and together they raised three daughters and a bonus daughter among several nieces and nephews. He dedicated 20 years to working at Wolcott grain elevator. In 1993, Larry and Sandy relocated to Falls City, Nebraska, where he worked for Woodings until he retired. Larry was a beloved figure, considered by many to be a father figure. He had a huge heart, a big sense of humor, and a free spirit. He loved to fish, ride his motorcycle, build things, and work on cars. He also had a deep connection with animals, often providing a home for any creature who needed one. "Uncle Larry'' created many wonderful memories for his nieces, nephews, and all of the children of Wolcott (*the Beard kids). He was considered a "brother" to all of his sisters and brothers-in-law.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sandy O'Brien; daughters, D.D. O'Brien, Deana O'Brien, Fina O'Brien Itterly (Michael); Esperanza "Turd" Ogden (Dwayne); Lisa Jones and Lori Hudson. *Troy Hernandez, *Jacque Hernandez, *George Hernandez, and *Roy Hernandez; brother, Donald Inglis (Lyanna); sister, Cathy Davis (Robert); brother, Danny Inglis; sister, Debbie Milke (Tracy); sister, Dana Cummins (Terry); grandchildren, Brenna Collins (Michael), Trey O'Brien-Collins, Korynn O'Brien-Hansford (Zaudyn, Tre), Cliff Hansford (Evah, Elyse, Braydon), Nataley Hansford, Kyle O'Brien, Gannon Ogden, Evan Ogden, Amber Hudson, Amanda Hudson, Dustin Poynor, Tiffany Poynor, Dakota Poyner, Doshie Rodgers (Chris, Peyton, Connor).

Larry was preceded in death by his mother Geraldine Inglis; father Clyde O'Brien; stepfather Dale Inglis; and his baby sister Nancy Lee O'Brien, who died in infancy; as well as many brothers-in-law.

Family and friends are invited to honor the life of Larry at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Following the viewing, a reception will be held at the Fisher Center, located at 201 E. Iowa St. in Hiawatha, KS. Expressions of condolences can be sent to the funeral home. Funeral donations can be made directly to D.D. to help with expenses.
