Madonna "Donna" A. (Buersmeyer) Gnagi, age 84, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, in Topeka, Kansas at Midland Care Hospice House with family by her side. Born on October 11, 1941, to Victor and Geraldine Buersmeyer, in Jefferson City, Missouri, Donna's life was marked by a steadfast devotion to her family, community, and faith.

Raised in St. Thomas, Missouri, Donna attended St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church and elementary school. She graduated from Helias High School in Jefferson City, where she met Larry Gnagi. Their marriage spanned 63 years, beginning with their wedding at St. Thomas and enduring through decades of shared joys and challenges.

Donna's heart belonged first and foremost to her family. She is survived by her husband Larry Gnagi; her children Steve Gnagi of Gravois Mills, Missouri; Ret. Lt. Col. Chris (Kim) Gnagi of Topeka, Kansas; and Ann (Austin) Copeland of Sunrise Beach, Missouri. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Emily, Sarah, Melody and Gerianne Gnagi, Mckensie (Matt) Bevens, Taylor and Katie Gnagi, Michaela (Corbin) Lisy and Alix, Asher and Alicia Copeland; and great-grandchildren Joshua and Samuel Lisy. Bonus joy came through Briell (Brock), Brady, Brendon and Briell's sons Draegon and Archer.

Donna was predeceased by her parents Victor and Geraldine Buersmeyer and her grandson Zachary Gnagi.

Time spent with her grandchildren was especially precious to Donna—she relished every moment with them. Her own yard was a testament to her love of nature—filled with vibrant flowers and plants that attracted birds and butterflies. The porch swing became a cherished spot for visiting with loved ones and friends or simply enjoying the spectacle of a good thunderstorm.

Donna's commitment to service was evident early in her career. Alongside a colleague from Kansas, she helped establish the Brown County Health Department, laying the groundwork for improved health services in the region. Her professional journey also included roles as a secretary for several law offices, as well as work in abstracting.  She created beautiful silk flower arrangements for brides.

Donna was deeply involved in her community. In Hiawatha, she was a lifelong contributing member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. She taught CCD classes and served on the Funeral Committee—organizing meals and volunteers for families in times of loss—always sharing her talents generously. Her commitment extended beyond the church; she served on the Brown County School Board and took pride in handing diplomas to all three of her children at their graduations.

Donna enjoyed playing bridge and was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi. Her willingness to volunteer for good causes reflected her belief in service above self.

Those who knew Donna remember her as a great listener—fair and honest in her observations—and as a loyal friend who could always be counted on when needed.  She met conflict head on with grace.  She radiated positivity.  As a mother, she offered grounded love and guidance.

Donna's final resting place will be at the cemetery in St. Thomas—a place made even more meaningful because it stands on land donated by her grandfather—where she will join her parents and other family members in eternal peace.
