ONAGA – Max W. Loughmiller, 82, of Onaga, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the Eastridge Nursing Facility in Centralia.

He was born March 10, 1941, on a farm near Soldier, the son of Lowell "Hike" and Stella McDonald Loughmiller.  He graduated from Onaga High School in 1959.

Max was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton, and was an Elder at the church.  He was also a member of the Onaga Lions Club, and had served on the Pottawatomie County Fair Board, the Onaga City Council, Onaga U.S.D. 322 School Board, and on the Onaga Community Center Board.

He had worked at Goodyear Tire in Topeka for forty years.  In retirement he drove a bus for the Onaga schools.

He married Janice Abitz on June 9, 1963 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton. She survives.

Max was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kay Martin.

Other survivors include a son, Lucas Loughmiller (Katie), Manhattan, a daughter, Mitzi Loughmiller, Harahan, LA, one sister, Verla Harding, Topeka, a brother-in-law, Roland Martin, Grain Valley, MO, one granddaughter, Stella Zoe Loughmiller, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 20th at St. Luke Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow in St. Luke North Cemetery at Wheaton. Max will lie in state after 12:00 Noon on Sunday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga.  A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday with a Prayer Service at 4:30.  Memorials are suggested to St. Luke Lutheran Church, Onaga Lions Club, or Eastridge Nursing Facility, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 312, Onaga, KS  66521.
