Maxine Kent, age 69, passed peacefully with family by her side on May 30th, 2024, in Hiawatha, KS.

She was born in Enid, Oklahoma on January 29, 1955, to McPherson White and Lola Mae (Moore) White.  She grew up going to church as a Southern Baptist and was very faithful in her beliefs. She sang like an angel and always offered up a prayer.

She lived in White Cloud Kansas most of her life, where her and Gilbert raised their four children, Gilberta Bindel and husband Ron, Jamie Bokelman and husband Kevin, Benjamin Kent and wife Rachel, and Carmalee Kent and partner Rob.  Gilbert Benjamin Kent and her were married in Enid Oklahoma on June 26th, 1971.  They have 10 grandchildren, Mason, Raymond (Natasha), Josephine (Aaron), Dalton, Tayler, Aubrey, James, Curtis, Aaron, and Eli. Also, they have eight great-grandchildren, Serenity, Juno, Declan, Jasper, Atticus, River Lynn, Taiylah, and Traiyson.

In her early years, she was a candy striper and lifeguard, which she talked about often.  She was a homemaker all her life but had jobs here and there in neighboring communities.  She found the most joy and purpose when she became the meal delivery lady for the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska Senior Citizens Meal site.  There she was able to care for many elderly and deliver their meals, do small chores, and check in and visit, which was so enjoyable for her.  She never knew a stranger, always greeting people with a smile and a hug and had a knack for making everyone feel welcome.

Celebration of Life services will be held on June 15th, 2024, at the George Ogden Building located on the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska reservation.  The family welcomes everyone in true Maxine fashion from 10-12pm.  Flowers may be delivered to the Iowa Tribal offices on Friday, June 14th or the day of the service.
