Monte Steven Busch, 49, of Manhattan, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from injuries received in a one vehicle accident.

He was born December 13, 1973 in Topeka the son of Steven and Janice Flowers Busch and grew up in Onaga, KS.

He graduated from Onaga High School in 1992.  He loved playing football, baseball, and basketball while in high school and even had a scholarship for football.

He was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan and KU Jayhawks fan. He was self-employed as a carpenter, certified welder, asphalt and concrete worker.

Monte loved to hunt and fish, along with sharing a passion, with his son Dakota, for the outdoors. He also loved to play his guitar. Monte was known to all his friends as his nickname "Mo".

Monte moved to Indiana where he married Suzanne Singer, had a son Dakota, but later divorced. Monte returned to Kansas in 2009, where he met the love of his life Suzie.

One of Monte and Suzie's favorite thing to do was go country cruising. They would do it every day, and sometimes twice a day. They always hoped to see huge bucks on their adventures

The casino was also another huge favorite pastime of theirs, along with grilling out and drinking some cold beer!  Monte had a mischievous side. Many of the stories would probably be too inappropriate to mention!  Monte also had at "least" 20 lives, surviving many home and work injuries, but always came out strong, including a fall off a ladder, two stories high, and landing onto the concrete.

On March 24, 2023 Monte was diagnosed with stage four throat cancer, which had also spread to his lymph nodes. Dakota came up from Illinois, along with his mother, Janice from her home, after learning of his Monte's diagnosis. This lifted everyone's spirits and brought each lots of laughter.

His mother helped, by taking Monte to an occasional appointment, spending quality time together on her visits, and even on a good day, were video'ed dancing together in the kitchen.

Monte underwent extensive harsh radiation and chemo treatments and was declared cancer free on October 6, 2023.  He was looking forward to being himself again one day soon and attending his son's graduation from med school.

Monte would do anything for friends and family. He would always be the first to offer and to show up! Monte loved to joke around and had a heart of gold. He was one of a kind and rare gem. Monte was amazing and will be indescribably missed and so very loved! He left an imprint and memory on everyone's heart that he ever encountered.

He will always be remembered for his humor and will NEVER be forgotten!

Monte was preceded in death by his father, Steven Busch, and his grandparents, Lloyd and LaVon Flowers and Harvey and Norma Busch.

Survivors include his fiancé, Suzie Ott, Manhattan; a son, Dakota Busch, Wheaton, Illinois; a step-son, Landon Ott, step grandson Josiah Ott, step granddaughter Scarlett Ott Manhattan; mother, Janice Lowry; Silver Lake one sister, Julie Falk, Topeka; a niece, Jadan Falk, Topeka; a cousin, Jason Stotts (Meghann) that he considered his brother of Hoyt, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Monte would be honored if all who could, would wear camouflage to the funeral and feel free to write one of your memories of Monte to share with everyone. We will have it read for you, if needed.
