ONAGA – Rose Ida Bergman, 95, of Onaga, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Onaga Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Rose was born September 1, 1926 in the Coal Creek Community, south of Centralia, the daughter of Howard and Katie Stegeman Becker.

She attended and graduated from St. Patrick Catholic Grade School in Corning in 1940. She attended Centralia High School, graduating in 1944. Rose was the first homecoming queen that the high school sponsored. She was employed at Horalek's Clothing Store upon graduation.

She married Norbert E. Bergman on January 7, 1947 at Coal Creek. To that union two children were born, Robert Allen and Karen Sue. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1990.

Rose was employed in the office of Dr. Capsey in Centralia. When Norbert acquired employment at Goodyear Tire in Topeka, the family moved to Onaga, where she began working at Woods Pharmacy and The Onaga Clinic. After her retirement in 1990 she did eighteen years of volunteer work at the Onaga Community Hospital, under the direction of Phyllis Simmons, which she enjoyed very much.

Her favorite pastime was working in the yard and teaching her grandchildren the "fine art" of lawn mowing. Her world revolved around her grandchildren. She always wanted them in her home and could easily bribe them with their favorite treats.

Rose was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild at the church, the Hospital Guild and the Senior Center Club, all in Onaga.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Bergman, and her siblings, Henry Becker, Edward Becker, Mary Meyer and Luella Freel.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Bergman, Onaga, a daughter-in-law, Marsha Bergman, Onaga, five grandchildren, Nathan Bergman (Emilie), Katie Renyer, Meghan Weiser (Marcus), Lindsey Moran (Stephen) and Adam Bergman (Shelby), and twelve great grandchildren, Tatum Renyer, Carter, Claire, Madelynn and Meredith Bergman, Lillie, Gavin, Emery, Eli and Stella Weiser, Cecelia Moran and Finnegan Bergman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery at Coal Creek. Rose will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga. She will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. at the church where visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary being prayed at 7:00.
