Sarah Jane Hurt

Sarah Jane Hurt, Mnis-Wettno-Kwe, 42, of Topeka, died Sunday, August 30, 2026 from injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident.

She was born February 19, 1984 in Topeka, the daughter of Samuel Hurt and Sharon Belair.

Sarah was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the Drum Religion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Hurt and Sharon Belair and her grandparents, Robert and Lorene Jackson.

Survivors include three daughters, Luisa Beatrice Reyna, Octavia Portillo Hurt and Deena Rochelle Jones, her step-parents, Wamp Shopteese and Sebrina Winsea, a brother, Albert Belair, a sister, Theresa Belair, and one grandson, Lucian Araziel Rocha.

Sarah will lie in state at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8th and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., where a visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. A supper and wake will be Wednesday evening at the Nozhackum Hall. Burial will be Thursday morning in the Prairie Peoples Cemetery.
