ONAGA – Stephen Kent Hughes, 73, of Onaga, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at his home.

He was born July 4, 1949 in Wichita, the son of Ernest and Ayline Knapp Hughes.

Stephen was a U.S. Army veteran.  He served in Vietnam with the 919 ^th "Blackhorse" Engineers.

He had worked as a cook and manager of restaurants for over forty-five years.  The most current were Sirloin Stockade and Famous Dave's in Manhattan.  He had also worked part time in the kitchen at Golden Acres Nursing Home and had owned and operated Uncle Kent's Place in Onaga for a short time.

He married Frances Oliver in September of 1997.  She survives, of the home.

Griffin, Onaga, and Mark Goddard (Kayla), and Bill Goddard, all of Wichita, a brother, Scott Johnson, Maple Hill, two sisters, Beverly Benefield, Peachtree City, GA and Susie Reed, Raymond, KS, and grandchildren Stephen Hawk Hughes, Sabella Calmm Hughes, Seth Lim Hughes, Daylan T. Griffin, Zachary Goddard, Joshua Goddard, Kayden Goddard, Hailey Hughes, Isaiah Hughes, Rylie Goddard, Jaxon Goddard, Jaden Godddard and Ryann Goddard..

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16 ^th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Onaga Cemetery.  Stephen will lie in state after Noon on Friday at the funeral home, where family and friends will meet from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
