Ulvesta "Kay" Ludvicek, 74, of Holton was called home on October 31, 2023. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. To know her was to love her.

Kay was born July 7, 1949 in Topeka, Kansas. She was the second of seven children born to Damian and Patricia Levings. Kay graduated from Perry High School and received her BA in elementary education from Washburn University.

Kay married her husband and best friend of 51 years, Terrance Ludvicek, on June 17, 1972. Together they had three children. Kay chose to spend their early years at home as a mother.

Kay dedicated much of her life to educating children. She taught elementary school in Emmet, KS, at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Nortonville, and substitute taught throughout Jackson County. Kay also served as the CCD program director at St. Dominic Catholic Church for 11 years.

After retiring from teaching, Kay served as the church secretary at St. Dominic for 18 years. In her many roles she served the Church daily. Kay was known for her deep faith and commitment to Christ.

Throughout her life, Kay was an avid reader, plant grower, and traveler. She especially enjoyed traveling with her family and taking summer vacations together. One of her happiest moments in life was becoming a grandmother and she treasured spending time with her grandkids.

Survivors include her husband Terry, of the home, and three children, Russell (Jenna) of Shawnee, Chris (Tracey) of Topeka, and Erin (Nick) of Holton. She leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Connor, Genevieve, Victoria, Samantha, Jaxon, and Dashal, as well as siblings and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton.  The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, west of Holton.  Kay will lie in state Thursday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., with a Rosary prayed at 7:30.  Memorials are suggested to the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Jackson County, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1034, Holton, KS  66436.
