Obituary

Ward Henry, 94, of Hiawatha died Thursday morning, December 31, 2014 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

Ward Beecher Henry was born June 26, 1920 at the home of his parents in Robinson, Kansas, Albert and Leah (Korthanke) Henry. He attended Prairie Springs Grade School and graduated from Robinson High School in 1938. He graduated from Highland College in 1940. He married Virginia A. Henry on August 23, 1941 at the home of her mother Anne Van Bebber in Troy, Kansas. Virginia passed away January 13, 2001. After retirement he continued to work around the farm until 2012 and lived on the farmstead that he was born on for most of his life. He was a member of Zion Methodist Church until 1943 when he transferred his membership to First United Methodist. He was a member of the Church choir since 1943, retiring only recently after 67 years. While a member of the church he was active in church leadership, serving as a trustee as well as being on numerous committees.
Ward was very active in community service, he served on the Robinson High School Board, the first USD 415 board, Robinson Coop Board, and the Hospital Board. He was a member of Eastern Star and performed ritual work at Grand Chapter.
He was a member of the 138th Field Artillery Band between 1937 and 1941. He was a member of the Highland College men's quartet and served as Student Council President. He sang with the Pony Express Barbershop Chorus in St. Joseph, Missouri for four years. Always active in Lions Club, he was the Charter president of the Robinson Lions Club in 1960, and was a current member of the Hiawatha Lions Club.
Ward and Mary Redmon were married August 17, 2002. She preceded him in death January 17, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth in 2002, and his sister Marjorie in 2012.
He is survived by four children; Bob (Janis) Henry of Robinson, Kansas, Jane (Dennis) Dunning of Mesa, Arizona, Nancy (Mike) Lindenmuth of Geneva, Illinois, and William (Michelle) Henry of Robinson, Kansas.
Eight grandchildren: Chris (Heather) Henry of Stuttgart, Arkansas, Janelle (Zac) Bailey of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ryan (Kelly) Dunning of Gilbert, Arizona, Scott (Stephanie) Lindenmuth of Chicago, Illinois, Katy (Scott) Green of Chicago, Illinois, Jonathan (Dorothy) Henry of Perry, Kansas, Lanaya Henry of Lawrence, Kansas and Isaiah Henry of Robinson, Kansas, and 2 step grandchildren Lindsey (Colin) Folk and Colby (Victoria) Kloepper.
Eight great grandchildren: Connor, Emma, Ashlyn, Teegan, Evelyn, Addison, Henry and Alice, and 2 step great grandchildren: Jaydan and Jaxon. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha. Friends may call the funeral home after 10 a.m. Friday where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. that evening.
